It isn’t long before Lee tracks the two former operatives down. Lee begins to suspect that Nicky Parsons ( Julia Stiles), a former operative is also searching for Bourne. He puts Heather Lee ( Alicia Vikander), a hacker and counterinsurgency expert, in charge of finding him. But CIA director Robert Dewey ( Tommy Lee Jones) has a new plan to draw Bourne out of hiding. Look around today and everyone's doing what was fresh then.10 years after Jason Bourne ( Matt Damon) managed to escape the agency that trained him to be an elite killer he continues to evade all the CIA’s attempts to bring him in. It blew up with how exciting it was and how involving the plot was. It's kind of like Matrix back in its day. A lot of other movies and franchises have emulated the best things about the Bourne trilogy. The thing is, when these popped in early 2000s, they were definitely fresh. Through modern eyes, there's nothing new in them and everything's been done. It's nearly always about high end cars and here's Bourne screwing down a street in a stock Mini. Sure, films like the French Connection were first, but it was unusual to see vehicle chase scenes with shitty cars. I'm not saying "original," just that it wasn't common.Īnother fresh thing was the set piece chase scenes. It was novel, at the time, to add a little human dimension to the bad guys. Even this was a change of direction compared to the Bond franchise and how static the Bond character used to be. There were parts that were as suspenseful as the edge-of-seat moments in Breaking Bad.īourne's character was always interesting too and seemed to develop through the plot. What I remember is everyone I know was blown away by the series. The suspense, the soundtrack and the action were on a new level or they had a different vibe. It was pretty fresh when it came out and it's hard to explain how fresh to modern eyes.
